House of Cards

Adobe Photoshop Adobe InDesign

For the House of Cards project we were asked to recreate the original House of Cards done by the Eames with our own spin to it. House of Cards is made up of ten cards have two sides and can interlock with one another. After creating both of them digitally, I found that the recipe idea was the strongest. I photoshopped each cocktail so that the glass would be transparent to add more depth and sophistication. Then, I decided to let friends handwrite the recipes and a few arrows in order to test out this idea. I wanted each drink to have a different personality to it, and the handwriting did just that. It helped emphasize my idea of a “girls night out” much more than a digital font could have.

Finally, I began working on my box which needed to start the story of my girls night out while also informing the viewer on what that box contained. Therefore, I included photos of the drinks and the cards, as well as information about the house of cards project. I called it a “Cocktail Menu” because my cards are, in a way, a creative cocktail menu. However, I also wanted to start the idea of a girls night out, so I included a quote from their server for the night asking which drinks they wanted to get started with. Then, after opening the box you see the different handwritings of different girls and what they chose to drink. Finally, my last card is a guest check detailing all of the drinks of the night. The back of this card has a quote from their server thanking them for their service, while the ladies question which destination they are headed to next for their girls night out. This plot line added layers to my cards and personality that I really enjoy.
