Silent Patient

For this self initiated project, I wanted to challenge myself to create a book cover and an After Effects short video to promote the cover. The Silent Patient is one of my favorite books, but I felt that the covers were not effectively using the imagery and foreshadowing from the book. Therefore, I created several covers that have meanings that will not be understood until after you have completed the book. I also made sure that the covers did not spoil anything, but were still eye catching.

Then, I put each book cover design into after effects. The books slowly create themselves based on quotes I used from the book to inspire the covers. The clicking, typewriter, and whisper noises add an unsettling ambiance that builds suspense. The video ends with the final design that I felt best hit all of the qualifications I had for a new cover. Overall, I enjoyed being able to show my process creating these covers by implementation of After Effects.
